He needed to sail pass this strait to get home to Ithaca.
He chooses Scylla over charybdis because if they go to charybdis they would all die, but if they go to Scylla only six would die because Scylla has six heads and six mouths to eat with.
The strait is narrow and so Odysseus has to pass by either Scylla or Charybdis. Circe tells Odysseus that Charybdis is far more dangerous, as 3 times a day it sucks in all the waters around it. This would completely suck in Odysseus and his ship if he is sailing too close to Charybdis. Circe advises Odysseus to go to Scylla's side of the strait, for despite the danger of the monster, it is preferable to lose a half-dozen men than the whole ship.
Odysseus goes through the Sirens by putting beeswax in their ears. Odysseus is tied to the mast while the Sirens are surrounding them and is begging for his soilders to untie him but they don't. He goes through Scylla by just going past it, letting 6 of his men get eaten by Scylla. And he sailed closer to Scylla to get past Charybdis.
Odysseus ultimately chooses to navigate the route of Scylla rather than Charybdis. He decides this because Scylla, a six-headed sea monster, will take only a few of his men, whereas Charybdis is a massive whirlpool that could swallow the entire ship and crew. Odysseus prioritizes the survival of the majority over the loss of a few, reflecting his leadership and strategic thinking in dire situations.
The Underworld and then through the Harpies and sea monsters; Scylla and Charybdis.
Circe warns Odysseus of the dangers in store for him and his crew on their journey home. These dangers include the Sirens, Rovers, Scylla and Charybdis, and Helio if his cattle are slaughtered.
about the sirens, scylla, charybdis, the sun god, and not to eat the Helios cattle. to never sleep with a chik you don't know
Charybdis was a nymph before turning into what she was. For some reason she did something horrendous and was turned into a whirlpool. She and her sister were in this business Scylla was also a nymph but got punished and became a headed monster. But they got so frustrated that whenever a ship came you had no where to go because you would either get eaten by Scylla of drown by Charybdis. The only to that made it through them was Odysseus and i think Jason.
To make sure that his crew stay calm and not think that he's crazy to go up against a giant snake and whirlpool
Odysseus inspires his men by reminding them of their past challenges and triumphs, appealing to their sense of duty and loyalty. He is withholding the specific details of Scylla's danger, only telling them that they will face a monster, in order to prevent them from becoming paralyzed by fear.
All kinds of people/things. And everyone who went with him died. Let's go with.... The cyclops.
Charybdis was a giant monster, that sucked in water, creating a whirlpool, and Scylla was another monster, whose cave was high on a cliff, that had a small amount of space for a ship to sail through without being killed by Charybdis, though this was just as deadly because Scylla would launch one of her heads down and snatch up sailors, eat them, then go for another.
