The Algonquian linguistic stock includes a diverse range of tribes, with estimates suggesting there are around 30 to 40 distinct tribes or groups that speak languages belonging to this family. Prominent tribes include the Ojibwe, Cree, Potawatomi, and Narragansett, among others. These tribes are primarily located in Canada and the northeastern and central United States. The linguistic stock reflects a rich cultural heritage and historical significance among Indigenous peoples.

There is no such thing as the Algonquian tribe. The term Algonquian applies to a very large family of distantly-related languages spoken by tribes across the entire North American continent. So, for example, the Arapaho (who spoke an Algonquian language) lived on the Great Plains and lived entirely different lifestyles to the Powhatan (another Algonquian-speaking group) who lived in the tidewater areas of Virginia.
Algonquian is not a tribe, it's a large grouping of tribes that speak Algonquian languages. Tribes in the Powhatan confederacy, which Pocahontas was part of, spoke an Algonquian dialect. That language is now extinct, though there are efforts to reconstruct it, which means they have an approximation of it based on historical word lists and still-existing Algonquian dialects.
Peoples of the northeast region, such as the Iroquois and Algonquian tribes, commonly practiced a mix of agriculture, hunting, and fishing. They lived in longhouses or wigwams, and had social structures that emphasized kinship and matrilineal descent. Tribes in this region also engaged in trade networks and sometimes had conflict over resources or territory.
