Yes, they are, He can be known as Hernando, Hernan and even Fernando Cortes. Most people today know of him as Hernan Cortes. The spelling of Cortes with a z is wrong, he never spelt Cortes as Cortez during his lifetime, I can only think that this is an American spelling of the word, which seems to be taking over the whole Internet.
i dont think he does!
Hernando Cortez first explored Mexico in 1519, conquering the Aztec civilization in 1521.
I think you are referring to the commonly known Aztec Empire. However, they referred to themselves as the "mexica" (pronounced "meshika") people. Their capital city was Tenochtitlan, located on an "island" in the "Lago (Lake) Texcoco." They were conquered by the Spaniards, lead by Hernan Cortes, in 1521.
Cortes thought that Dona Marina could him deal with the native peoples of the Americas as she spoke two native languages. We do not know what he thought of her personally, but she was the mother of his son.
Hernan Cortez was not a God but when he arrive to America (Tenochtitlán) the Aztec thought he was his God Montezuma because of his light skin.
