The first documented information about history and origin of people whose last name is Drecun can be traced back to the year 1490, when Ivan Crnojevic, a ruler of Montenegro at that time, built a monastery in Cetinje and established Cetinje as a spiritual and civil center. All members of Drecun's clan originate from Ljubotinj (more locally Boguti), a geological depression siituated about 16 kilometers southwest from Cetinje and about 20 kilometers northeast from Budva. Vukac was the name of the first Drecun whose existence was documented. He had two sons: Vuk and Vojin. All Drecuns originate either from Vuk (known amongst Drecuns as Vukovici), or Vojin (known amongs Drecuns as Vojinovici). Historically the best known Drecun and the most celebrated was Matijas, and he was one of the senators during Njegos's ruling of Montenegro. Drecuns are fiercly and proudly of montenegrin nationality, although some have at times considered themselfes as serbians.
