He couldn't be any whiter if he was from Iceland! Most Cuban Americans are white (about 85%) & about 65% are white back on the island. He is a Cuban Jew & quite obviously fully Caucasian. Being "Hispanic" merely means one comes from a family background that originates in one of the Spanish-speaking countries of Latin America. It has no racial connotation whatsoever. It is merely a linguistic unifier, which is treated as an "ethnicity" for U.S. Census purposes. Ethnicity & race are themselves two entirely different concepts & are not necessarily interchangeable. Also, keep in mind that the term "white" is not really meant to be taken so literally. It is simply a synonym for Caucasian. The proper technical term would be Caucasoid. Race is determined by craniofacial anthropometric, not skin color. Thanks!

Note: The reason why various forms have "Hispanic" as an option to check off is to insure that schools, employers, housing providers, etc. are in compliance with the laws regarding discrimination as well as for statistical purposes. In such cases, all "Hispanics" (white, black, mestizo, etc.) get lumped together. On the U.S. Census, however, one first answers yes or no to being "Hispanic" or "Latino" & then selects their race. It is the only "ethnicity" question on the form.

William Levy is Sephardic Jew - Spaniard-Cuban. (Mediterranean Caucasian)
