The Innu are often recognized as Indigenous people in Canada, but they are not classified under the broad category of "First Nations" in the same way as other groups, such as the Cree or Mohawk. The term "First Nations" generally refers to a specific subset of Indigenous peoples who are recognized under the Indian Act and have distinct legal statuses. The Innu, primarily located in Quebec and Newfoundland and Labrador, have their own unique governance structures and cultural identities, which may lead to different categorizations. Thus, while they are Indigenous, the terminology surrounding their classification can vary depending on legal, cultural, and regional contexts.
Samuel de Champlain interacted with several First Nations groups, including the Mi'kmaq, Maliseet, Algonquin, and Innu. His relationships with these groups varied, with alliances being formed with some while conflicts arose with others. Champlain's interactions with the First Nations played a significant role in the early colonization of New France.

The Montagnais people, also known as the Innu, traditionally lived in the eastern portions of present-day Quebec and Labrador in Canada. They are a First Nations group with a deep connection to the land and a nomadic hunting lifestyle.
The Innu people traditionally lived in birch bark wigwams during the summer months and more sturdy, insulated winter tents called mamateeks during the winter. Today, many Innu people live in modern houses and communities.

thay are people A: Innu is the Innu-aimun word for "human". Innu people are natives located in Sheshatashiu and Natuashesh in NL, Canada. Some live in Sept iles, QB. Each seem to have a certain accent/dialect when speaking innu. The people in Natuashesh speak it as it was spoken hundreds of years ago, the people in Sheshatshiu speak a more modern, flatter tone(like people in North America speak English differently than people in the UK), the people in Sept iles sound like they are speaking french. I heard they cam from Mongolia, located just above China. They supposedly walked along the coastline of Russia and Asia, went across the ice connecting Russia and Alaska, heading south for awhile, walk in the territory of the Cree, get chased away from them and then wondering into Quebec and Labrador, because no else one was there..
