Caste System is used for community living and identifying various groups of populations for ease of common habits and customs in ancient India. Other wise prior to that era only 4 varnas are there based on type of work done for living. Later people started identifying themselves based on their work like farmers, pujaris,gold smiths,Barbers,warriors etc.
Hinduism
The surname Baruah is more commonly a Buddhist surnames. It is not represented in the caste system because the caste system is used for people in the Hindu religion.
It helped with the caste system so the caste system was highly used in society spearating groups a lot.
LAL surname does not determine caste it is sometimes used as a middle name. It also used by KAYASTHA caste who are high caste according to the hindu caste system i.e between brahmins and kshatriyas caste. It also used by Punjabis/ sikhs as Lall or Lal
it affected the caste system by bringing new content to the caste system.
They were apposed to the idea but some countries used the system.
Buddhism has no belief in caste system. It frankly rejected the caste system.
The caste system used to go by what career you aspired, but now it changed to be a bit racist. Hinduism does not justify the caste system, and caste system is now illegal in india. It is more of a social/cultural thing than a religious custom.
The Caste system was made up of High ranking hindu officials and the "untouchables". The caste system, and the Roman hierarchy formed the democracy of the USA. We copied ancient ideas and used them.
