The first identified death from asbestosis was registered in 1924. The difficulty in answering this question stems from several factors: (1) timing [""how many people have died..?"" -- all-time or this year?] (2) geography [worldwide or in a specific country?] and (3) asbestosis as direct cause of death or among all contributing factors listed on the death certificate? Finally, it is important to remember that asbestosis is a chronic-exposure condition (as opposed to a ""poisoning""-type condition
"Asbestos poisoning" is not a term that is used when discussing asbestos. It implies an adverse effect occurring soon after exposure to too much asbestos but that is not what happens. The adverse effects of asbestos exposures occur only many years after asbestos exposure began.

There is no disease called "asbestos poisoning." The dieseases caused by asbestos are asbestosis, lung cancer, and mesothelioma. Plumbers who worked in the 1970s and before might have suffered one or more of these diseases. Those who began wroking in the early 1980s or later probably will not, because asbestos disturbances were more tightly regulated and controlled.
At the moment there dont seem to be any figure released for 2007, the World Health Orgaisation released figure for 2006 and it was shown that in the UK, over 4000 people that year died due to asbestos exposure, 89,000 people world wide died with a recorded 128,000,000 people diagnosed world wide with asbestos diseases.
No one knows and the estimates vary widely.

I suppose that an exact and credible statistics doesn't exist.
In the year 2007 there were many people who died due to Antrax poisoning.
Asbestos exposure typically occurs through inhalation of asbestos fibers present in the air from sources such as workplace environments with asbestos-containing materials, living in older buildings with deteriorating asbestos insulation, or from natural deposits of asbestos in the environment. Additionally, exposure may also occur through contact with asbestos-containing products or materials during activities like construction, renovation, or repair work.
Asbestos is not a gas, but a particulate. Between 550 and 600 deaths per year in the US only.
Probably many people, but the most famous is likely the ancient Greek philosopher, Socrates.
