It sounds like you may need to ask yourself a few questions.

  • Do you think about death a lot -- not just your own but death itself?
  • Lost or gained any weight lately without trying to?
  • Lose anyone close to you? Parent, friend, dog, cat?
  • Having trouble sleeping? Or having trouble waking up?
  • If you drink or use drugs, are you using more than usual lately?
  • Feelings of hopelessness?
  • Feelings of worthlessness?

If you're getting a few "Yes" answers here, you may be depressed. And if so -- that's not comfortable, is it? The good news is, there are lots and lots of ways to improve depressive states. Most involve a good counsellor, and that's what I'd recommend, but others can sometimes be done yourself.

The important think -- and something I want to congratulate you for -- is that you had the courage to ask this question. Maybe the toughest thing in overcoming depression is taking the first step. You just did that.

Please feel free to follow up on this. Ask more questions here. Talk to or email people whose advice you might like -- or just conversation for that matter. A lot of this can get better if you ask around a bit. Just the act of asking helps!
