It's not really about the TV at all, it's about not moving enough.

People become fat when the food they eat has more energy than they use up, and the less you move around the less energy you use.

If you keep active, and get some exercise every day, it's easier to use up the energy from the food, and to avoid getting fat.

But if all you do in your afternoons and evenings is to sit around you're using real little energy, and you run a bigger risk of overeating and getting fat.

But TV as such doesn't matter, you'd run the exact same risk of getting fat is you read, played Chess, did puzzles or something equally stationary instead.
