In order to run a six minute mile, you need to focus on your breathing, and the rate at which you run. It shouldn't be at a full burst of speed, because you can lose energy rather quickly, but keep it at a constant jog. You would be surprised at how effective a constant jog can be. I remember a friend of mine telling me she could beat me at the mile, and of course, I told her she couldn't. So when the teacher signalled us to run, I ran at a burst of speed whereas she was doing a slow and steady jog behind me. Little did I know, my energy would run out quickly, and I was soon walking. Soon she passed me, still at her steady jog, and finished the mile in about 7 minutes, wheras I finished it in 12
