They will if you exercise with them on and eat fewer calories than you burn off by that exercise. They won't have any effect if all you do is sit around watching TV with them on. If those weights are heavy enough, you'll have a difficult time getting to the food...just a thought.

When doing a seated shoulder press, sit upright with your back supported, feet flat on the floor, and core engaged. Hold the weights at shoulder level, palms facing forward. Press the weights overhead, fully extending your arms without locking your elbows. Lower the weights back to shoulder level and repeat.

It can be prevented by doing more exercises minimum for 20 minutes, the doctor said do push-ups, sit-ups, or do weights, I have no clue if it works. But try and ask your doctor about it if he agrees then do it. Might not make much of a difference, but at least you will align it a little. Good luck for everyone that has scoliosis and take care!
Not generally - interlocking your fingers behind your head during sit-ups can cause neck strain and tension. Best practice is to cross your arms across your chest to prevent excess strain.
