Pro = excellent source of protein. Relatively inexpensive source of calories. Some of the nutrients in meat are hard to obtain in a vegan diet. Raising animals for meat allows use of some parts of the world that are not suitable for farming. The human digestive system has been adapting to a diet of cooked meat for 1.5 million years.

Cons = meats are high on the food chain, and tend to concentrate the "bad stuff" (toxins, antibiotics and chemicals in the animal feed). Also, saturated fat content can promote coronary artery disease. Meats are generally high in saturated fats. Large dairy, hog, beef, and chicken operations can be sources of outbreaks of disease that are hard to contain. Raising beef and hogs generates incredible quantities of manure which gets into water supplies and increases bacterial contamination. Beef, in particular, is very inefficient. A steer consumes 10 calories of food for every calorie of meat.
