There is a limit as to how skinny is still healthy. When the desire to be skinny is caused by the pressure of society (what you think looks perfect to others) such as advertising and peer-behavior and is interpreted by youngsters who are not always circumspect, it may contribute to self-harm through anorexia, bulimia, depression, or poor nutrition.

Skinny does not always mean a person is healthy. They can be thin, but still eat bad foods (and be malnourished), not exercise (which can lead to a weak heart), or do harmful things to themselves such as smoke. Thin is not really the best indicator of health.

The best thing a person can do is take good care of themselves. When you are doing things right, a body that doesn't have health issues will regulate itself to about where it should be weight wise, without you even giving it much thought. Eat healthy, be active, drink water, and get good rest.

If you are worried about looking like the models on the magazine covers, do a Google image search for "magazine covers before and after photoshop" and "cindy crawford no photoshop." Cindy Crawford did a very brave photo shoot without touch ups to try to help people feel better about themselves. It is very eye opening.
