Various amounts depending on what kind of oil you have. We can extract oil from plants, animals or rocks:

Oil from plants is called Essential Oil, because it contains the scent or essence of the plant. Example: Linseed oil comes from the Flax plant and is good to eat in small doses.

Oil extracted from animals is called Organic Oil, because they come from a living organism. Example: Cod Liver Oil is extracted from the liver of the fish and is tasty.

Oil from rocks is called Mineral Oil, because rocks contain minerals, and precious gems! Example: Petroleum, also known as Crude Oil, is extracted from the earth and is used to make plastics and power our cars.

Oils have various uses, and only a few of them are edible. We would normally take this oil into our bodies along with the rest of the plant or animal we were eating.

Oils are not nutritious enough to live on. We use them as nutritional supplements. Which means, taken as part of a healthy diet, they can provide us with some extra nutrients that assist the body in various ways.

Of course there are other kinds of oils that you wouldn't want to eat since they come from poisonous parts of a plant or animal, such as special massage oils, although they contain nutrients which are good for the skin.
