"Brain-food" is a non-technical term used to refer to any food thought to be good for the brain, brain development or cognitive function. Fish is one such example where the term is used.

It's not as though consuming bucketloads of fish will suddenly make you a genius, though some studies have found regular consumption of fish can slow cognitive decline among the elderly and possibly provide improvements in development amongst infants. The term gets thrown about quite loosely, and it's not as though any food has to have any extremely popular criterion to be considered brain-food- nor will consuming a food popularly considered brain-food necessarily make you smarter.
