Clara Barton was a nurse contributed much towards medical care for the North during the US Civil War. With allot of efforts, she helped get medical care and supplies to wounded Union soldiers. She used Washington DC as her base, and spent much of the war helping in Union hospitals in the eastern theater of the war. Her efforts were fueled by what she saw as inadequacies that the Federal government was not providing in medical care. She also convinced the US surgeon general in 1862 to allow her to have almost a free hand in coordinating Union medical efforts.
