After the tri-state tornado in 1925, communities engaged in extensive rebuilding efforts. Residents rallied together to clear debris, support one another, and raise funds for reconstruction. Local and regional organizations provided assistance, while government aid helped facilitate recovery. Over time, new building codes were implemented to enhance safety against future storms.
It hit nine towns and the only one I remember the name of was Gorham which was completely destroyed by the tornado.
The Tri-State tornado had a path of 219 miles long and 3/4 mile to 1 mile wide across 3 states and numerous mining towns.
1-2 years
The Tri-State tornado was the deadliest tornado in U.S. history. On March 18, 1925 this mile wide F5 tornado traveled a record 219 miles across parts of Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana, killing 695 people.
Tornadoes do not kill enough people to make a notable dent in the local population. The deadliest tornado to hit the U.S. in recent years killed 158 people in a city of 50,000, much less than 1% of the population. In the aftermath of a tornado, however, some people may choose to leave rather than rebuild. For example, about half the population of Greensburg, Kansas has left since much of the town was destroyed by a tornado in 2007.
The "tristate area" of New York consists of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
If you had no insurance then you're out of luck. You'll just have to buy a new house or try to rebuild or repair the one that was damaged by the tornado.
The impact of a tornado can range from relatively minor damage, such as breaking windows and peeling roof tiles, to the complete destruction of entire neighborhoods. Homes and businesses can be destroyed. Power outages are common even in weak tornadoes. People in that path of a tornado may be killed or injured. In extreme cases the number injuries may overwhelm local emergency services. After a tornado passes, the community has to clean up, rebuild, and restore utilities. Some people, especially in small communities, may leave rather than rebuild. The local economy may suffer as local businesses have to rebuild or close for repairs. People may suffer from psychological trauma and long-term bodily injuries.
People are left to clean up debris, repair and rebuild. People who are injured will have to be treated. Some may, at least temporarily, have to find another place to live. In some cases some people will be left to bury the dead.
The negative economic effects of a tornado are mostly local. When a major tornado strikes a city, the cost of damage and repairs can be enormous. There is also a cost of lost productivity as workplaces and businesses are destroyed or forced to close for repairs and as potentially hundreds are injured. Many people may not be willing to rebuild and will move elsewhere.
Tornadoes can cause a sginificant disruption. When a warning is issued people must take cover. Afterward, people must repair or rebuild. In some cases search and rescue parties must be formed.
The government has granted millions in money to rebuild and emergency workers from across the country are searching for trapped and injured people.
