The founder of the Red Cross was Jean Henry Dunant (1828-1910). He had a great idea, which until now lives on: The founding of the Red Cross in Genève, Switzerland.

Dunant was secretary of a committee for the first time on 17 February 1863 session. This meeting is regarded as a founding date of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
