The North Atlantic current runs in a clockwise motion, bringing warm, moist air and water up from the equator resulting in more energic storms in the Caribbean. As the current continues up around Newfoundland in Canada, it is much cooler on its way to the United Kingdom. In addition, the Caribbean is in between several plate boundaries, which leaves it prone to earthquakes, and has resulted in the formation of severla volcanoes.

Poverty is another major factor. Poverty does not lead to more natural disasters, but it magnifies their impacts. The UK is a wealthy nation, and so can manage moderate disasters fairly well. By contrast Haiti, one of the poorest nations in the world, plagued by corruption and poor environmental and construction standards, is devastated even by minimal hurricanes.
