Well, you can only technically drive to 49 of the states, but if you maybe park your car on a boat and sail to Hawaii you could drive to all 50.

I would suggest starting in Alaska, and then going down to Washington, then Oregon, then sail to Hawaii, sail back to California, then hit Nevada, then Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, then Arizona, then over to New Mexico, then over to Texas, up to Colorado, over to Kansas, up to Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, over to Minnesota, over to Wisconsin, down to Iowa, then Missourri, over to Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, then down to Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and end in Maine.

(Or reverse the order :D)

Anyways,

the amount of time it would take depends on your motive. If you don't want to be a tourist int he states and just want to be able to say you've driven to every one of the states, then I would give yourself about 55 days. One day per state, and an extra five days to ensure you have enough time for sleeping, eating, etc. I would also suggest you don't complete this trip alone.

Oh, and, use mapquest. (:
