Actually over 3,000 years ago in ancient Greece a house in Athens there was a report, a story of "the first ghost sighting". The Greek writer Tacitus writes of a man plagued by the spirit of a deceased man. The house was inhabitible for many years because locals knew of the house being haunted by sounds of ratteling chains and the apparition of a man ratteling them for they were bound to his hands and feet. Some years after the house had been abandoned, a a philosopher named Athenodorus came to Athens, and needed a place to stay. He found the abandoned home within a resonable price, and decided to take it. He was warned by neighbors and others in the city about the place, but proceded on with moving in. The first night inside started off quiet, but then came the sound of chains ratteling. It sounded faint and far away at first, so Athenodorus figured it to be somewhere else. Then, the sound became louder and it was clear that it was coming from within the property. When he looked up at the door in the entranceway, he had seen the apparition of a older man in chains, ratteling them. He beckoned hin to follow him, and then dissappeared in the yard. Athenodorus marked the spot, and returned in the morning with servants to dig in the spot. After a while, they came across the bony remains of what is assumed to be the ghostly man. They were given a proper burrial and since then, he has yet to appear and haunt the home.
