Thermostat location — 1997 Saturn SC1 4 On your 1997 Saturn SC1, the thermostat is not on the top of the engine like many cars — it’s located: 👉 At the engine block where the LOWER radiator hose connects 📍 Exact spot Follow the lower radiator hose from the radiator It leads to a metal housing (thermostat housing) bolted to the engine The thermostat sits inside that housing 🛠️ What you’ll see 2 bolts holding the housing Coolant inside (so expect spillage when opening) Positioned low on the passenger side of the engine ⚠️ Quick tips before touching it Let engine cool completely ❄️ Drain some coolant first Replace gasket/O-ring when installing new thermostat 💡 Common mistake Many people look near the upper hose or near the head — ❌ That’s wrong for this car ✅ Always check the lower hose connection

You have the hose from the engine (bottom) that goes into your radiator, and one from the radiator to the motor. The sensor is where the second hose plugs into the motor. Be careful when you loosen and torque the bolts, they're fragile.
