The day of the banquet arrived and all of the animals went to the banquet, with the rat leading the way on the back of the cow the whole time. Except for the cat. He was still comfortably asleep in his bed, dreaming of the banquet that would never come.

It's because it relates to the old folk tale that when god invited all the animals to a banquet the rat decided to play a trick on the cat that the party was the day after the actual day of the banquet and when the cat went to sleep he was dreaming about the party that would never come. Now when god found out that the cat never came he said to the cat that he would be excluded from the banquet.
