Les Pauls do very well with heavy distortion, I say definitely yes.
Jackson Guitars are a company based in Southern California. They particularly make guitars suitable for heavy metal music and were started by Grover Jackson. They can be bought at any good musical instrument shop.

Very good and cheap guitars are hard to come by, but I would suggest a Dean ML. $200 but it's higher quality that most other brands around that price range and they play great. I play Metal and have one and a lot of other metal bands use Dean guitars.
Awesome guitars!
Depends on the style you like! America and Britain both have extremely rich heavy metal traditions, Finland are currently a production line for good metal bands, Germany's had a good number, Australia has some, Scandinavia is extremely rich in good metal... I could go on, but I won't.
They are both good. I would go for epiphone as ESP sounds heavier unless you want a heavy metal sound. Both guitars have great models, it's all personal expectations. M.W http://miketheblacksheep.wordpress.com/
