Black wine is actually more accurately referred to as purple wine. It's deep in color, dark, and as Steven George of intowine.com describes it, brooding. When you hold it up to the light, your glass' contents will even appear inky. France's Cahors wine is a fine example. With an earthen texture and blueberry undertones, the wine is as hearty as it is dark.
