It all depends on the amount of soda that you consume. The sugar (high fructose corn syrup, sucrose, etc.) and the acid in the soda cause your teeth to rot over time. Thus, the sodas with the higher amounts of these two things will essentially cause your teeth to decay faster.

There is plaque on your teeth as well as bacteria in your mouth. The sugar in the soda feeds this plaque. The bacteria feeds off the sugars, and they convert the sugars into acid. The ACID from the bacteria as well as from the soda itself causes the breakdown of enamel on your teeth (CAUSES IT TO ROT).

These sodas have a good amount of sugar in them:

Coke (40.5 grams of sugar in 12oz can)

Mountain Dew (47 grams of sugar in 12oz can)

Pepsi-Cola (40 grams of sugar in 12oz can)

Rockstar (60 grams of sugar in 16oz can)

Dr. Pepper (41 grams of sugar in 12oz can)

Jolt Energy (944 grams of sugar in a 23.5oz can)

Here are some sodas that have less sugar in them:

Fresca (0 grams)

Diet Sodas

(Look at the Nutrition Label on the can to see the amount of sugar you are going to consume before you drink your soda.)

There are some things that you can do though! Try to not drink excessive amounts of it. Easier said than done right? Try to drink soda with a straw so that less of it will go on your teeth. See you dentist a few times a year. Brush your teeth a few times a day. Although these tips may seem basic, they are effective.

(Diet Soda ALSO CONTAINS ACID, so they can also cause your teeth to decay).
