When American Samoa was claimed to be a territory, Fijian Chiefs asked Britain if they will take the whole of Fiji and Britain agreed to claim Fiji and Rotuma as its own. This stopped the American from moving further down south and claim island(s) in the Pacific.

No; this is not quite correct; the implication is that the British took control without requests being made on behalf of Fiji or the Fijian people. The first offer of cession to Britain was signed by Ratu Seru Cakobau 12 October, 1858. The offer was declined by Britain and this communicated to Cakobau and Tui Dreketi in the presence of other chiefs in a formal meeting on board HMS Miranda at Levuka on 11th July, 1862. Subsequently, 'The British Government, having resisted repeated appeals from the chiefs and responsible white residents for protection or annexation, found that the situation [of turbulence and anarchy] could no longer be ignored or evaded. Unwilling as successive governments had been to assume any responsibility for the administration of the Islands, the evils of the labour traffic, of which Levuka was an important centre, the political sickness, and the straits to which it reduced the white population, most of whom were British subjects, forced the Imperial Government to intervene; an unconditional offer of cession was accepted, and on 10th October, 1874, Fiji became a British Crown Colony.'
