A speech on pollution?

If I were leader of the free world, the first issue I would address would be pollution. We all know about pollution. How it's bad and we need to do something about it. Let me ask you something. Do we really know about pollution? How it really affects the ecosystem? How we are killing ourselves and everyone else? How this crisis is really malevolent to the world? Now, I thought that when people know about such a crisis, they do something about it. Well a lot have, but has this been a big help? It's good that people participate in these actions, but if they had solved the whole thing, we wouldn't be talking about it. Think about this. If you dropped a candy wrapper on the ground because there wasn't a nearby trash bin, it wouldn't be that bad. Just one piece of trash. But if every person in one state did that, trash would be everywhere! What about everyone in America, or in the world? If you threw recyclable material away, you'd pollute. That material goes to landfills or could end up out into the oceans. It pollutes the oceans while killing aquatic life. If an aquatic animal or fish got into plastic it would kill or majorly harm them. Not only that, but when plastic stays in the water, it breaks down into microscopic pieces and stays there for hundreds of years. The sea life cannot separate these particles from the water. In dead, washed-up sea animals scientists find chunks of pollution, pollution particles, or maybe oil in their insides. Can you think of a reason why a helpless sea animal among others should die at our hands? Especially when we could do something about it? When you refrain from polluting you are saving their life. People also pollute the air we need with pollution. This is causing a major issue called global warming. The trapped heat in the atmosphere causes the poles to experience drastic climate change. Air pollution causes immense, noxious fumes that rise into the air that we need to survive. In our modern American life, Americans use approximately 2.2 billion pounds of pesticides every year. To help out, I would get people to spread the word! People need to know that they're destroying our world. Groups of people that took action could inspire the world and make a difference in peoples' lives. If everyone did this, it would be a major change. Nowadays, many people in America are not willing to sacrifice time and money to go "green." This problem needs to be dealt with. We need to be doing something! That's why I chose this issue. We need to help the world. Like David Orr said, "When we heal the earth, we heal ourselves." And we will be successful. For we will have a world saved.
