You will need more than just one nickel. Most scales require you to calibrate with a specific weight, usually a weight that is close to the scales capacity (ie 500g weight for 500g capacity scale)
Nickels weigh approximately 5g so you would needs lots of them. However it is not exact and you will sometimes find nickels that weigh 4.9g to 5.1g. Nickels should only be used as a last ditch effort to fix a scale that is way out of calibration. You can find cheap calibration weights for pocket scales online.
A magnitude scale. Formerly the Richter magnitude scale was used, but this has now been replaced by the Moment magnitude scale.
A Richter scale used to express the energy released by an earthquake A Beaufort scale is used to derermine the sthrenth of wind.

Digital pocket scales are commonly used for business, shipping, cooking, and more. You should calibrate your scale every 4-5 times you use it, to make sure you get accurate readings. You can calibrate your digital pocket scale by cleaning it and following the calibration steps with weights, coins, or household items.
A scale used to measure things in grams
Both scales could be inaccurate, it really depends on the scales resolution, the weight used to calibrate, and the amount of usage since last calibration. Generally, digital scales will have higher resolutions, but both types of scales could be equally inaccurate if they were both calibrated wrong or were both worn in from frequent usage. You can think of it like a digital watch and an analog watch. The digital watch may display time down to the millisecond, while the analog watch displays weight down to the second. The digital one is more precise, but both watches could be inaccurate if they were not set properly, or if they have become slow or fast over time.
It is a potentiometer.
Dendrochronology, or tree-ring dating, has been used to calibrate radiocarbon dates. By matching the pattern of tree rings in an archaeological sample with a master chronology, scientists can improve the accuracy of radiocarbon dates.
