Can magnesium help with muscle cramps?

Magnesium deficiency is definitely a cause of menstrual cramps. Any kind of cramp can be an indication of magnesium deficiency, because without sufficient magnesium, muscles cannot relax. If you are magnesium deficient, this fact can be painfully obvious during that time of the month. If you have bad menstrual cramps, it would be a good idea to start taking a well-absorbed magnesium supplement. The most absorption come from chelated forms of magnesium, like magnesium malate or glycinate, although the malate form is easier on the stomach and can be found in a sustained release formula as well. Sustained release magnesium is more absorbable and doesn't cause diarrhea like most magnesium supplements will when taken at therapuetic doses...but that's what you need to replenish a deficiency.

What is an example of administering magnesium with calcium supplements to increase the absorption of the mineral?

Answer #1I read that calcium blocks the absorption of magnesium. So if you are taking a lot of calcium supplements you may suffer from magnesium deficiency issues like an increased risk of heart attack. You should be consuming 1000 mg of calcium per day as well as 100mg of magnesium. : )Answer #2Are you asking for a good brand of Mag and Cal? Asking if you should take both? Here's what I found on it from Jigsaw Health, they're who I get a lot of my supplement information from as well as the products I take everyday:"Without sufficient magnesium, our bodies cannot use calcium properly. Magnesium is what keeps calcium dissolved in areas of the body where it needs to be (like the muscles, joints, kidneys, heart and brain for example). But when the body doesn't have enough magnesium, calcium is pulled away from the bones and can cause major problems throughout the entire body."

When to Take Different Types of Magnesium Supplements?

The most important thing is that you are taking magnesium every day, as studies showing the benefits of taking magnesium are based on taking the supplement consistently for a while. When it comes to the timing of your magnesium supplements, the most important factor is taking your magnesium whenever you remember. That said, it is also worth pointing out that if you are taking magnesium to help you sleep, you will want to ensure that you take it closer to bedtime. It is also helpful to avoid taking magnesium after a meal, as its mineral buffering effects may reduce your body's production of stomach acid and thus interfere with how you digest food. What to Know if You're Taking Any Type of Magnesium Supplements Once you decide the type of magnesium supplement to take, it's good to know a few things about them. Magnesium supplements are generally safe and have been studied for use in a variety of conditions. There are a few things to know before starting to take magnesium: Magnesium is one of the few supplements deemed safe to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Those suffering from kidney disease or on dialysis may have adverse side effect when taking magnesium and should speak to their health care provider beforehand. High blood pressure medication (ACE inhibitors) should also speak to their healthcare provider to ensure there aren’t any contraindications. Prescriptions for those with osteoporosis may interfere with magnesium supplementation, making neither work how they’re intended.
