Magnesia, (the name derives probably from the ancient district of Magnesia in Asia Minor), the oxide of magnesium, was shown to be an alkaline earth different from lime by the Scottish chemist Joseph Black in 1755; he observed that magnesia gave rise to a soluble sulfate, whereas that derived from lime was known to be insoluble.
Joseph Black, a Scottish chemist and physician, first identified carbon dioxide in the 1750s.
Magnesium was first prepared in pure form by Sir Humphry Davy in the UK.

In 1754, while working with magnesium, joseph black discovered carbon dioxide which he called "fixed air," as a gas distinct from ordinary air.

The person that is credited with discovering the organomagnesium compounds was Victor Grignard. He found them and used them to make synthetic reagents and win the 1912 Nobel Peace Prize for it.
Magnesium was discovered in England, most likely Switzerland.
matter of magnesium
MAGNESIUM ...… is cool
