On and off shore breezes are common.

There are two temperature combinations that cause these.

  1. During the day when the land is warmed by the sun so is the air above that land, the air over the water is cool. This causes a wind current as the hot air rises and cold air settles and flows into where the warm air was, then it warms up and continues the cycle.
  2. At night the apposite happens, the land cools quickly after sunset and the water cools much slower so it is now warmer than the land, and the air current reverses.
