There are many tectonic plates. Canada is on the North American plate. This plate meets the Pacific plate and the much smaller Juan de Fuca plate on the west side. The Juan de Fuca plate is moving toward the North American Plate and being subducted beneath it. This has created the volcanoes near the west coast of Canada, part of the Ring of Fire.

About 225 million years ago, all the continents were together as one supercontinent, Pangaea. As the tectonic plates moved apart, it separated into two supercontinents, Laurasia and Gondwanaland. As the plates continued to move, we eventually came to the arrangement of continents that we currently have. Canada, as part of the North American plate, moved with it to its current position. The plates are continuing to move and eventually another supercontinent will form

How many plates make up the earths crust?

The Earth's crust is divided into several major and minor tectonic plates. There are around seven major plates, including the African Plate, the Pacific Plate, and the Eurasian Plate, along with numerous smaller plates. These plates float on the semi-fluid asthenosphere and interact with each other along their boundaries, leading to various geological phenomena.

How many plates is the earth divided into?

The Earth's surface is divided into several tectonic plates, of which there are around 15 major plates and numerous smaller plates. These plates constantly move and interact with each other, leading to various geological phenomena like earthquakes and volcanoes.

How many paper plates go in the landfill in Canada?

It is difficult to provide an exact number of paper plates that go to landfills in Canada due to variations in usage and disposal practices. However, it is estimated that millions of paper plates are thrown away annually, contributing to environmental waste and landfill burden. Efforts to promote sustainable alternatives and recycling can help reduce this impact.

What are tectonic plantes?

There is no specific term "tectonic plantes". It seems like a misunderstanding. Tectonic plates are large sections of the Earth's outer shell that move around on the semi-fluid asthenosphere beneath them, resulting in phenomena like earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.

What is lithospheric plates?

Lithospheric plates are large, rigid pieces of Earth's outermost layer, the lithosphere. These plates include both the continental crust and the outermost part of the mantle and float on the semi-fluid asthenosphere beneath them. The movement and interactions of these plates are responsible for many geologic processes, such as earthquakes, volcanic activity, and mountain building.

According to the theory of plate tectonics how many large plates exist on the earths surface?

Six -out of nine- large plates do contain land-areas: North American, South American, Eurasian, African, Indo-Australian, and Antarctic. The other three are oceanic plates: the Pacific, Nazca, and Cocos.

Would you expect many earthquakes to happen along the ring of fire?

Actually i found the answer. A lot of earths plates are found there and they rub against each other a causing earthquakes.
