∙ 8y agoMost people believe and forecasters will say that lightning can follow the metal of pipes into the house. So the caution about bathing came from this notion. However, this fails to take into account that most iron and metal pipes have been replaced (or the house was built with) plastic PVC piping. Other than occasional metal clamps, there is no metal for the lightning to follow. So if you live in a newer house, there is reason for concern.

There are many documented cases of people being electrocuted because of defective or missing grounds
Many unknowing so called "plumbers" without the benefit of formal training will actually either use gas piping or non ferrous piping for for a ground
