The tropical rainforests are so heavily populated because there is many different kinds of vegetation (plants) attracting herbivores, which attract other consumers. Also tropical rainforest's contain many bugs which attract different bug eating birds, therefor attracting others. It's one big food chain, or food web.
Well, as of personal experience, I at one point in my life lived in a tropical rainforest. For 7 months I lived in the Daintree Rainforest in Queensland Australia. It was a spectacular point in my life. I shared a small hut with my pet kangroo, named Jack. So, to answer your question, yes, people do live in tropical rainforests.

Platypuses do live in the tropical rainforest. This is one of their natural habitats. Tropical rainforest is perfect for the platypus as it provides clear, running creeks and rivers for food and shelter, and plenty of tree cover when platypuses come out and rest on rocks and boulders.
