precipitation
Because there can be a lot of water in warm air, stratus clouds can easily turn into dark, rain and snow-producing nimbostratus clouds.
Stratus clouds can bring light drizzle or steady light rain, but they are not typically associated with heavy rainfall. These clouds are low-lying and often cover the sky in a uniform layer, which can lead to prolonged periods of light rain or mist.
Stratus clouds can produce light precipitation like drizzle or light rain. They are generally thick, low-lying clouds that can bring sustained precipitation over a large area. However, they tend to produce less intense rainfall compared to other types of clouds like cumulonimbus clouds.
Stratus clouds are typically associated with overcast or foggy weather, and often bring light precipitation like drizzle or light rain. They form in stable, moist air masses and indicate a potential for prolonged periods of gloomy, dreary conditions.
The main types of clouds on Earth are cirrus, cumulus, stratus, and nimbus. Cirrus clouds are high-altitude, wispy clouds. Cumulus clouds are fluffy and often indicate fair weather. Stratus clouds are low, layered clouds that can bring steady rain. Nimbus clouds are rain clouds that often bring precipitation.
The scientific name for stratus rain clouds is "nimbostratus." These clouds are low, thick clouds that often bring continuous rain or snow.

Yes
You mean stratus clouds? Stratus clouds can bring rain but not tornadoes.
Stratus clouds are associated with long periods of light to moderate rain or snow.

Stratus clouds bring, small amounts of rain. I may be wrong but I have a test on Clouds tomorrow so I should know. And for you information stratus clouds look like a long, fluffy, blanket, and are usually are gray. So when you see stratus clouds you MAY have rain. Like I said I can't promise you that every stratus cloud will bring little rain. So if you'll be walking on a day stratus clouds will be out, bring a umbrella, just in case. Date 9/4/12

No, not all stratus clouds bring rain and thunderstorms. Stratus clouds are generally associated with overcast or cloudy weather, but they do not necessarily produce precipitation or thunderstorms. Rain and thunderstorms are more commonly associated with cumulonimbus clouds.

Not necessarily. The word stratus means layered. If the stratus clouds are low enough they can result in ground fog. Stratus clouds can also produce a light, but steady rain or snow.
