A hurricane's strength is warm ocean water. The storm takes the water to it like a storm cloud. That is why hurricane season is in the summer. Their weakness is land because they get no moisture to keep them moving at a slow pace of 5-10 mph.

Some Weakening factors of hurricanes is just being over land, this means that the hot and cool air needed to continue making it stronger isn't there anymore.
