The Taino were discribed as medium height, with dark brown eyes. High cheeks bones and thick straight Black hair. In general they are of a light brown skin color to dark copper skin tones. They tended to be like Asians with very little body or facial hair. Because the Taino are related to the Lokono tribe and to other Arawak speakers in Guiana and Venezuela, you can get an idea of how they looked by looking at pictures of these populations today. In Puerto Rico many people have the skin color and hair texture of these ancestors. Native Americans from North, Central and South America are the people with the least genetic diversity. This means that with few exceptions most Native Americans for the most part share many physical charateristics. Which is why many North American Indians report that people often confuse them with being Hispanic. This just shows that most Latin Americans or Hispanics have Native American ancestors.
