When conducting scientific experiments, the researcher manipulates an "independent variable" (i.e., some physical parameter that can be controlled) in order to measure the effects of such manipulation on a "dependent variable" (i.e., the results of changing the physical parameter of interest). For example, one could lower the temperature in a refrigerator (the temperature being an independent variable) and wait to observe when water left in the refrigerator turns to ice (the change from liquid water to the solid form being the dependent variable). Thus, the change in the dependent variable depends on the manipulation of the independent variable.

The independent variable is the variable you change, the dependant variable is what changes as a result of what you change.

The independent variable is the variable being changed the dependent variable is the variable being measured.

If you were measuring the growth rate of plants under full sunlight for 8 hours a day versus plants that only have 4 hours of full sunlight per day, the amount of time per day of full sunlight would be the independent variable. This is what you control. The growth rate of the plants would be a dependent variable.

What does dependent variable and independent variable mean in math?

An independent variable is a variable that isn't affected by something else. A dependent variable is a variable that's affected by changes in the independent variable.

Independent vs dependent variables?

Free from outside control means Independent . While dependent Is opposite.

What does independent variable and dependent variable mean in science?

It means that they are not supposed to be together.

What are the dependent and independent variables in the experiment?

The independent variable can be located on the x-axis, it also means its the thing in the experiment that you change. The dependent variable is located on the y-axis, and is what you are using to measure your independent variable. The independent variable is a variable that changes. The dependent variable is a variable that is measured and used for data.

A straight line on a graph means there is what kind of relationship between the dependent variable and the independent variable.?

A straight line shows direct proportion. That means that equal changes in the independent variable always produce the same change in the dependent variable.

What is definition of inverse and direct proportion?

Direct proportion means as the independent variable increases, the dependent variable increases, and vice versa. Inverse propostion means just the opposite. As the independent variable increses, the dependent variable decreases, and vice versa.

What does dependent and independent mean in math terms?

A dependent variable is one in whose experimental or analytical value is determined by the value of the independent variable. An independent variable is not determined by any other variable, but rather is an input value. For example in the equation y = 3x y is dependent and determined by the value of the independent variable x

What is the manipulating variable the dependent variable or the independent variable?

The independent variable.

What does independent variables in science?

Hello, Well what you would be looking for is what an independent variable means. Assuming you understand what a variable is and a dependant variable is, here goes: An independant variable is the variable which you change in an experiment. Note you can only have 1 variable that can change in an experiment and more than one independent variable will result in an unfair experiment. An example is an experiment looking at the growth of trees in the Dark, in a dimly lit room and in the direct sun. The independant variable is the location of the experiment, because this is what is being changed. Simply: The Independent Variable is the variable that is independent and you change. The dependant variable is what changes when the independent variable changes. To conduct an experiment, you will have an independent variable and change that to see how the dependant variable changes with the independent one. Hope I Helped

What variable precedes the other when thinking of independent and dependent variables?

The independent variable is named first. In the Cartesian plane, this means you write (X, Y).
