1) Fossil fuels are running out. Strong winds, sunny skies, plant residues, heat from the earth, and fast-moving water can provide a constant supply of energy.

7) There is less risk of large scale failure with wind and solar energy because they are distributed and modular. A severe weather event in one area will not cut off power to an entire region.

Well, the most obvious reason is that oil isn't infinite and takes millions of years to form from compacted animal and plant matter. It would be foolhardy to not develop a more permanent solution to the energy crisis when the world has almost depleted its supply of fossil fuels.
