Rainbows are made by sunlight being refracted through water droplets suspended in the air. They are most often seen during showers or other such weather phenomena that produces such conditions. There is a report of a rainbow enduring (off and on) over 38 hours on the northern shore of Baffin Island (Far Northern Canada). The time was during the northern summer where the sun doesn't set during that part of the year. This is an incredible occurring as the northern arctic is actually a very dry place and 'showery' conditions are not likely to occur very often or last very long. In hind-sight we can only lament the apathy that accompanied the viewing of this rare spectacle and has denied us of exact statistics.
