Plate boundaries, essentially, are the areas where two lithospheric plates meet. When this happens, one of three things can happen. Plates can move apart from each other, creating divergent boundaries. Plates can collide together, created convergent boundaries. Or plates can rub against each other in a parallel motion, created transform fault boundaries. Divergent boundaries, usually between two oceanic plates, creates an upswelling of magma from the lithosphere. Convergent boundaries, usually between oceanic and continental plates, causes the oceanic plate to subduct underneath the continental plate, leading to the destruction of seafloor. Transform fault boundaries neither destroy nor create lithosphere.

Types of plate boundries?

The three main types of plate boundaries are divergent, convergent, and transform. Divergent boundaries occur where plates move apart, creating new crust. Convergent boundaries occur where plates collide and can result in subduction zones or mountain formation. Transform boundaries occur where plates slide past each other horizontally.

What type of plate tectonic is eyjafjallajokull volcano located on?

Eyjafjallajokull volcano is located on a convergent plate boundary, where the Eurasian Plate meets the North American Plate. This boundary is a subduction zone, where the denser oceanic crust of the North American Plate is being forced beneath the lighter continental crust of the Eurasian Plate, leading to volcanic activity.

Is Costa Rica a convergent plate boundary or a divergent boundary or a hot spot?

Costa Rica is a convergent plate boundary, specifically a subduction zone where the Cocos Plate is being subducted beneath the Caribbean Plate. This geologic process is responsible for the country's high levels of seismic and volcanic activity.

What is the lateral location of the plate if it has a thickness of 1 mm?

The total space etween stationary boundry is 1cm .Ethylen glycol is laced on the left side and propylene glycol is placed on the right . When the infinite plate that seartae the liquids is pulled upward,it finds an equilirium position. Determine the lateral location of the plate if it has a thickness of 1mm.
