when carbon and oxygen are mixed together it is definitely a chemical change. i know you probably don't want the technical info but here it is:

A chemical change happens when something new is created. Like it would be a physical change if you tear a piece of paper in half, because it's still paper, but if you burn a piece of paper then it's no longer paper, it's ash.

some signs of a chemical change are smoke, a smell, light, and bubbles.
