Both are highly flammable, so 100% shut off of both natural gas and propane are required in a closed in area- if that is what you are referring to.

house natural gas should have shutoff valve at the meter outside of house. I think you need to talk to the gas company. If this is propane tank as your supplier. It should be obvious on those.

I believe that the most economical BBQ grill would have to be propane. The use of propane makes sense because they heat up the quickest and can be shut off immediately after use.
