Scientist rejected Wegners hypothesis of continental drift at first because he did not have enogh evidence to support his theory. He failed to provide a suitable mechanism that could cause the continents to move.
Mainly for two reasons:
1. It was such a different idea that people had difficulty accepting it. Wegener did have it wrong that the continents "plow" though the oceanic crust.
2. He did not propose a mechanism - no one would believe it until they could figure out how it worked.
Scientists did not believe for two reasons:
1. It was such a different idea that people had difficulty accepting it. Wegener did have it wrong that the continents "plow" though the oceanic crust.
2. He did not propose a mechanism - no one would believe it until they could figure out how it worked.
There are a few reasons. First of all, the idea was quite revolutionary, and the idea that continents move seemed rather outlandish. Second, Wegener was a meteorologist, not a geologist, so the geologic community was not inclide to trust is judgement in such matter. Finally, for a long time Wegener did not have a proposed mechanism for continental drift, and the one he came up with was implausible.
He could not work out a method by which the continents would be able to move.
He could not prove his theory because he couldn't prove that the continents were moving so no one believed him and thought he was crazy. (:
He could not back up his theory with evidence, if i recall it was that he could not explain what forces push and pull continents...
he didn't have any proof
the sea-floor spreading, and the movement of tectonic plates
fossils,rocks and climate
No, because the scientists did not have a hypothesis
mountains usually occur in narrow bands along the edges of continents
you should think about the idea and answeer it and some it up for a new idea
no because then they would know least about the world
the sea-floor spreading, and the movement of tectonic plates
dont ask me freak
people in 1915 thought that he was crazy, and back theen they didn't have the technology to support Wegner's idea.
His evidence was incorrect.
why did other scientist not accpet Alfred Wegeners theory
two scientists from the 19th century that rejected the idea of spontaneous generation.
He could not provide a wholly acceptable explanation for the movement of the continents.
Mid-Ocean Ridge
There was no evidence to prove it
fossils,rocks and climate
because he was a fat battyboy
