Why do some think that global warming does not exist?

There are many reasons for people to deny that global warming is taking place.

Some with vested interests deny that global warming is happening, just as some years ago they denied that cigarettes pose a health risk

Some deny that global warming is taking place because they feel that humans could not possibly do anything that would affect the whole world in this way. They are unaware that human activities emit 30 billion tonnes of carbon oxide just from burning fossil fuels, each and every year.

Others deny that global warming is taking place because they would rather believe those who loudly proclaim that this is so, rather than accept the advice of most scientists.

There are a lot of different reasons:

1. Religious belief (Senator Inhofe demonstrates this)

2. Conservatism (which might include a belief man cannot impact his environment)

3. They're turned off by the media focus

5. They're not sure who to trust, so they trust a well-marketed presenter rather than climate science experts

6. By being exposed to climate skepticism in the press and on the radio because people (not necessarily qualified in the field, or at all) are making a ruckus about it, they're led to believe that the science is less solid than it actually is

Because they either don't want to , or just don't care about it . Some politicians are telling people that global warming isn't happening . When really, it's happening right under their noses .

A: Because some people are scared. It is obviously happening, just go to Australia in the summer, it is 10 x hotter than like,two years ago. so to anyone in Canada or England or whatever, it is happening, just deal with it.

A: There are theories that say this rise in the Earth's temperature is a natural phenomenon and has happened before. It may not be that global warming is not happening, they just think we are not the ones causing it.

A: I believe that they can't cope to deal/think that global warming is true. They don't believe in the scientific facts/notes on global warming. Also it may be that it is against their religion (quite odd I know, but it is what someone thinks/has high opinion of), so many scientists and students think that the global warming affects the icecaps/ice and it will melt which leads to a huge mass of extra water which will be the "cause of the floods/hurricanes/storms in 2012. Those are just some thoughts/reasons but there are many more out there that I can't think of atop of my head.

The so called "global warming deniers" do not, for the most part, believe that the planet did not warm a few tenths of a degree between 1975 and 2000. But many of them believe that whatever warming occurred was mostly (or even entirely) caused by natural climatic cycles that we have no control over.

The terminology is inconsistent, for starters. The terms global warming, climate change, and human-induced or AGW can be confusing! And the technical jargon, graphs and charts can be mind boggling.

Also some people have a strong belief in their faith or religion. They may ignore all the facts and figures and atmospheric jargon as they believe it is an act of God.

The IPCC is a U.N. funded report and as such a politically charged report that has no more credibility than an opposing study funded by oil companies. The notion that consensus makes proof is not science it is propaganda. Theories are not proved by popularity contests and physical laws are not discovered by consensus. Science is not a democratic process by which the majority gets to have their theories accepted over the less popular ones. Regardless of a theories popularity, regardless of the appeal to authority advocated by certain theories, the theories that are accepted as law are the ones that have been proven. There is not a 90% chance that gravity exists, it does exist and this is what makes it law.

The politicians who are attempting to seize more governmental control do not care if human activity is the cause of global warming and if it turns out that the eminent threat caused by global warming turns out to be nothing at all, the power seized by governments will not be relinquished and no apologies offered. Terms such as global warming deniers and climate change dissenters are political terms and have no basis in a scientific debate. Galileo was not an Earth is the center of the universe denier, nor was he a dissenter, (although he spent many years in prison because he dared challenge conventional wisdom), Galileo was a scientist looking for the truth. In science, it does not matter what you believe, all that matters is what is.

In large part it is due to a complete lack of honest science that supports that concept. Today, we have records that indicate the planet has warmed over the past 10,000 years. There is little doubt there. The larger issue is the 0.7 degrees of warming since the low temps of the mini ice age (1850) have error factors which could easily be over 1.4 degrees. This means that even the claimed warming itself has doubt in the error factors.

Another issue is the fact that there is strong evidence to suggest that even if CO2 levels have climbed as some claim, that this rise is above the saturation threshold of carbon dioxide. Levels above 100 ppm are, quite possibly, unable to cause additional warming of the planet. This is also a factor when you look at historical data. EVERY cooling period in our planets history has been during times of known high CO2 levels. EVERY warming period (including this one) has started during low CO2 levels.

Finally, there is the lies that we have caught the AGW leaders involved with. Doctor Mann's famous hockey-stick graph is not repeatable with data from actual weather sites. Doctor Hansen, has refused to give up data for review. Once this data was obtained, we found out why. In showing his warming trend, he forgot to use any years that disagreed with his theory.

Honest science is a slow process. You can become famous by a short cut or too, but these tend to add questions as to the validity of the issue. This is where the actual science sits today. If agw were a forgone conclusion, as some claim, then we would not need to spend anymore research money on it. That is not what we are doing, because we simply do not know what is going on yet.

Sometimes, they dont see the signs of global warming...but yes, there is global warming in the earth....so.....that's not good.....but yeah....they either can't see the signs or they don't care...either way, they're both idiots

They say this in ignorance of the facts. To say that Global warming does not exist is about as well informed as a person saying that smoking tobacco is good for you and if you do the research you will find the same scientific company names backing both the pro smoking lobby and the No golbal warming groups. It just goes to prove that some scientists are not interested in the facts at all. They are only interested in the very large amounts of money they are paid to make the kinds of statements they do and to misrepresent the information an a plausible way..

I know of one eminent scientist who did not believe that global warming is really happening. Richard Muller, a Physics Professor a longtime critic of government-led climate studies, not only believed that global warming was exaggerated, he also believed that climate scientists had overlooked the 'Urban Island Effect', in which measuring instruments that were formerly in rural areas have become surrouded by urban areas, leading to false high readings. He set out to address what he called "the legitimate concerns" of sceptics.

But Professor Muller unexpectedly told a congressional hearing the work of the three principal groups that have analysed the temperature trends underlying climate science is "excellent ... We see a global warming trend that is very similar to that previously reported by the other groups." Professor Muller acknowledged that previous studies accounted for the urban effect. "Did such poor station quality exaggerate the estimates of global warming?" he asked in his written testimony. "We've studied this issue, and our preliminary answer is no."

Not all scientists think it is not happening, many say they do. As for the deniers, they point to the fact that there has been no warming for over 17 years, and winters are becoming brutally cold again.
