Very simply because as water is converted to ice a major qty of heat is released to the surroundings. For the reverse process the same is absorbed. So the temp of whatver you want to cool decreases to a greater extend, more than cold water does.

Ice IS water, but in a solid form. Solidified ice is much colder than water. Heat flows to a cooler object.. the bigger difference in temperature, the more rapidly the heat transfers. So it's not the cold from the ice dispersing to your drink - the heat from your drink is being absorbed by the ice.

because ice lacks latent heat of fusion while water posses it. So ice absorb also latent heat of fusion.

It requires heat energy to melt ice. So when ice is melting, it has a cooling effect even though its temperature remains the same.

It takes about eight times as much heat to melt a certain amount of ice without changing its temperature as it does to raise the same mass of pure water 10° C.

Water and ether are placed on the palms of both the hands which will cause more cooling ether or water?

Ether has a greater cooling effect than water when smeared on your hands because of its evaporation method. Ether gets its energy from your hands. So when it evaporates, the cooling effect is greater than water.

What is the effect of land heating and cooling more rapidly than water?

young money young money and we getting rich

Does ice have more cooling effect or cold water?

Most people would say ice, because it's colder, but I say neither is. Ice is just frozen water (which is a physical change), therefore, neither is better than the other.

Are crystallization and cooling the same thing?

Crystalization is more of a side effect of cooling. So no.

Why cooling effect of ice at 0 degree Celsius is more than same amount of water at 0 degree Celsius?

Water at 0 oC is ice.

What happens when connection for chilled water FCU Coil is reveresed?

the density of water is higher than the copper coil it doen not effect the gravitational force, because of the higher water density, the water try to achive the area of coil as we know the copper is the good conductor of cooling it absorb the cooling soon, we get the more cooling effect where air to be pump,if we does reverse connection in fcu so, cause of gavitional force water water will travel through the ciol soon and rusult into less cooling effect.as copared to previous connection

What pollution do cooling towers produce?

None - the emissions from a cooling tower is nothing more than steam.

What makes the sea water cold?

cooling of seawater is caused by the evaporation of surface water which takes latent heat from surrounding water molecules, similar to the effect of sweating. Cooling of seawater is also due to brine acceptance, if the water becomes more saline, it will sink as it is heavier than the surrounding water masses and thus cooling as water which becomes more dense has a lower maximum temperature, and pressure causes water to become colder.

What effect does heating and cooling have on metallic structures (more specifically grain size)?

The dimensions grains in metals are modified by heating or cooling.

What is the effect of cooling load on wet bulb approach of a cooling tower?

Cooling load in kw is increase the temperature of the water before enter the cooling tower, thus the differential heat energy level is high compare to surrounding temp., so it will transfer heat more to surrounding and leave the tower with low temperature, and it will become more like to approach the wet bulb temp., this happens if the variables such the water flow, and the air velocity is kept constant.

How humidity affects the water cooling process?

When water can evaporate, the absorption of heat by the vaporizing water adds a significant amount of cooling. When the ambient humidity is already high, less water can evaporate before the air become saturated with water vapor and consequently cooling is more difficult. When ambient humidity is low, more water can evaporate before the air becomes saturated with water vapor - and thus more cooling can occur for the same flow rate of water.
