Food Miles
The main problem of them all is the transportation. Although, transporting food is one of the fastest-growing sources, it causes pollution and it produces carbon dioxide which is bad for the environment. This is like a greenhouse effect, it goes in but it doesn't come out. This causes climate change. Food miles can also be a cloudy issue as well. The processing, storage, and the way we shop for food all play a role in food's carbon footprint.
If, we reduce food miles, the environment will get much better, but then we, the UK, would lose our choices of food products, which don't grow in the UK. The world countries and the international trade will get worse if food miles stop as they lose a source of income and the international trade will weaken severely due to less food trade, and due to food exporters!
The taking in of food from the environment is called ingestion. It is the process of consuming food and bringing it into the body for further processing and digestion.
Dirt is great for growing food. Dirt can be a habitat for animals. Dirt is bad if it's in your home, unless you want to grow food inside your home. It all depends where it is and if it has any uses.
Mercury concentrations in the environment have serious repercussions for humans. Ingestion of mercury through fish or skin contact can inhibit the growth of myelin in children and developing fetuses.
Acrylic is bad for the environment because it is a type of plastic made from non-renewable resources such as petroleum. When acrylic products are disposed of, they do not biodegrade easily and can release harmful chemicals into the environment. Additionally, the manufacturing process of acrylic can generate greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants.
As food is grown, it needs water, nutrients, sunlight, etc, and needs to be as free of pests as possible. If there is a drought, soil is depleted of micronutrients and nutrients, there is not enough sunlight, or pests are bad, the food supply will be greatly reduced. Natural disasters, like hurricanes, flooding, or severe wind can wipe out crops and reduce the food that is available. On the other hand, if the growing food gets the right amounts of what it needs to flourish, and there are no disasters or severe infestations of pests or disease, food will be plentiful.
The point of food miles is to calculate how long of a distance it took to get your food to the supermarket, and then on your plate. Moreover, it makes the individual more conscious as to the consequences of fuel consumption (and the waste it produces because of the distance the food travels), if food miles are calculated and valued.
GORIGA CONEXUS:They learned to find good food and bad food
Because less Co2 emissions are created
Because they will eventually become a part of the food chain and the water supply.
food miles are how many miles food travels by transport.
Elmer's glue is not bad for the environment.
Some materials like plastic are bad for the environment.
