How cold does it have to be for it to hail?

It doesn't have to be cold. In fact hail forms best if it is fairly warm near the ground. No matter how warm it is at the ground, temperatures in the upper troposphere are very cold, though extactly how cold can vary. Hail forms in thunderstorms with strong updrafts. Such storms form best when the lower troposphere is warmer than normal while the upper troposphere is cooler than normal.

Which atmospheric layer is closest to the earths crust?

The atmospheric layer closest to the Earth's crust is the troposphere. It is where we live and where most weather phenomena occur.

What cloud indicates the top f the troposphere?

Cirrus clouds are the highest clouds in the troposphere and are typically found at altitudes above 20,000 feet. They are thin, wispy clouds composed of ice crystals and are often a sign of fair weather when they are isolated.

Why is the troposphere thinner at the poles?

As air gets colder it contracts. While the total amount of air is about the same in any column of the troposphere, at the cold poles that column takes up less space, resulting in a shorter distance to the top of the troposphere.

Why does the height of the troposphere vary around the earth?

Because of the temperature of the air. There's about the same amount of air over the earth, pressing down and generating roughly the same amount of pressure. But the difference is that because cold air is more dense than hot air, the same amount of cold air will compress much more than that of hot air. Therefore, the height of the troposphere over the poles can be less than half what it is at the equator, with the same amount of air.

Is the troposphere hot or cold?

The troposphere is typically colder as you go higher in altitude. On average, the temperature decreases by about 6.5°C for every kilometer increase in altitude within the troposphere.

Is the troposphere denser in winter than summer?

Yes. Cold air is denser than warm air and thus the troposphere is denser in the winter than in the summer.

The troposphere has what kind of tempaature?

It is cold and windy up there. The further you go up the colder it gets.

Is there life in the troposphere?

Yes, the Troposphere is where life is in the Atmosphere! We live in the Troposphere!

How do we know if were in the troposphere?

the troposphere is where people live and the troposphere is the west atmosphere

What is the temperature range in the troposhere?

the temperature of the troposhere is always cold and goes up and down but at the beginning of the troposphere it is about 15 degree's C.

Why are clouds at the top of the troposphere made of ice rather than drops of water?

It is very cold up there, and water droplets freeze into ice.

Do you live on or in the troposphere?

I believe we live in the troposphere:)
